The second and enlarged edition of BIOFLUID MECHANICS is due to the enthusiastic response to the first edition by the editorial board members of the World Scientific, Singapore. This present edition incorporates many of the suggestions received from my colleagues and students advising me to include materials related to Tissue Biomechanics, a new emerging field. However, the general plan, as described in the preface to the first edition published in 1992, remains unchanged, except for the addition of two new, on Tissue Engineering and Cellular Engineering and some new materials on computational biofluid mechanics that have been included.
These two chapters have been written in collaboration with my colleague, Dr. Sarthok Sircar, of the University of Adelaide and an ex-student, Professor Asit Saha of the Central State University, Ohio, USA. I am extremely grateful to them for preparing these two chapters.
